Borders of Hope

5-8-07

Dear Mr. Getman,

I am a South Side Middle School eighth grade boy and I have learned a lot about the Holocaust from my teachers and you. Your story was good. I learned a lot about what you have gone through, like when the Nazis took your Dad into the woods and they killed him. You were only thirteen, younger than I am now. I would be very sad if anything like that were to happen to my Dad. You were all alone, going from border to border by yourself, and surviving, using your wits.

I thought it was very cool how you hid the revolver under the tree. I can't believe how you were never caught by the Nazis during all those years and I am sorry about the passing of your family members. It was an honor to shake your hand after your talk, look at your family pictures and have my picture taken with you. When I get around to it, I will buy your book.

Sincerely,

Michael A.

P.S. - I am the boy in the bright blue shirt with the number 13 on it.
